In this episode, our host Cynthia McCoy Miller and her co-host Arena Turner discuss the significance of Black History Month 2024. Cynthia introduces the episode by highlighting the importance of celebrating African-American leaders who have made and are making significant contributions. Arena then reflects on the continuous relevance of Black History beyond just February, emphasizing the need for recognition and appreciation of trailblazers in the African-American community.
She mentions Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American woman to win an Oscar, as an example of resilience and pioneering spirit. Arena shares a quote that has inspired her, encouraging listeners to maintain their faith and persistence through challenges. Cynthia concludes the episode by expressing gratitude to the listeners and inviting them to stay connected for future episodes, reminding them of the importance of support from the audience and sponsors.
Cynthia McCoy Miller: Hello, everyone. Welcome back to Cynthia at the Table. I am your host, Cynthia. I have joining me here today, co-hosting, Arena. Arena, say hello.
Arena Turner: Hello, family.
Cynthia McCoy Miller: It's been a while, we know, but we certainly didn't want to end Black History Month 2024 without coming to the table and celebrating our African-American leaders, past, present, and future, who have helped and or are currently helping to pave the way. With that being said, we have a special Black History Month presentation. Please enjoy by going to our CATT webpage and clicking on the link. However, at this time, I want to make some space for Arena to share some of her reflections on what Black History Month 2024 means to her. Arena, it's all yours.
Arenea Turner: Thank you, Cynthia. As we know, Black History Month is not just in the month of February. Black History is every day for our people. And I just so appreciate you just having this space and this platform for us to just be reminded of those who have come before us and paved the way and for those like yourselves who continue to do what you do to uplift, you know, the importance of our community because we need that.
As I think about black history, in particular, I think about some of the folks and women, especially, who have just been trailblazers in this space. And I think about Hattie McDaniel. And many of us probably remember Hattie because Hattie was named Mammy in Gone With the Wind. And she faced discrimination, criticism for the things she believed in and her roles in Hollywood. And it was just really unfortunate.
But I will say that she was honored as the first African-American woman with an Oscar. And so I just wanted to uplift her as I'm reminded of her work. And then one of the quotes that I hold dear to my heart, and I like to share that with the listeners today. And it goes like this, "I did my best, and God did the rest." So, family, know that no matter what you're going through, no matter what obstacles or challenges you may have, just hold on to your faith and keep moving.
Just hold on to your faith and keep moving. Keep leveling up as Cynthia always tells us because this too shall pass.
Cynthia McCoy Miller: Wow, Arena, that was awesome and so much appreciate you sharing your reflections and some of the pearls so that our listeners can stay encouraged. Thank you, thank you.
So, in closing, we wanna thank you again for joining us here at Cynthia at the Table. Be sure to join us at the table next time as we will be coming back with some more exciting stuff soon. Don't forget to follow us on all of our social media platforms and give us a thumbs up.
We do sincerely appreciate all of your support and that of our sponsors. Until next time, be safe, stay well, and please continue to stay connected. Again, thank you. Have a good evening, everyone.
Arenea Turner: Blessings.
